1 John

1 That which was from the beginning, that we have heard, that we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw and our hands felt: concerning the Message of Life—and the life was revealed, and we have seen and we bear witness and recount to you the Eternal Life which was with the Father and was revealed to us—that which we have seen and heard, we recount even to you in order that even you should have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. So we are writing these things in order that our joy should persist abundantly.

This is the instruction that we have heard from Christ and are declaring to You, “God is Light and there is no darkness at all with Him.” If we claim that we have fellowship with him, yet we walk in darkness, we lie and we do not act upon the Truth that we claim. But if we should walk in the light—since He is in the light—we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from every sin. If we should say that we don’t have any sin, we are deceiving ourselves and reality is not in us. If we would confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous that he would forgive us our sins and would purify us from every unrighteousness. If we should say that we haven’t sinned, we make God a liar and His Word is not in us.

2 My children, I write these things to you in order that you should not sin. Yet if someone should sin, we have an advocate before the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. And He is propitiation for our sins, but not only concerning ours, rather even concerning the sins of the whole world. And in this we know that we have come to know Him: we guard His commands. Someone who claims that he knows Him while not keeping His commands is a liar and in this claim there is no reality. But whoever should guard His Message, in this the love of God really has been brought to maturity, in this we know that we are with Him. When someone claims to abide with Him, such a one is thus obligated to walk just as He walked.
